The home of Cars; the realisation of a dream...

The popularity of the Ford model T “put the America on the wheels”. It’s also because of the way that Henry Ford’s company built their automobile. The assembly lines make a revolution in the way to produce things. It was quicker and cost less, all the ingredients were present to make the model T a success! We can say that Ford is the house of this change, because they’ve start the movement and it still continue today.

The Ford model T was the first car that was produce with new method like assembly lines. It explains why it was the first affordable automobile that the majority of the population were able to buy. For example, in 1909, that car cost 850$ (it means 20 191$ today) and the competition offer their car at the ridiculous price of 2000$ to 3000$ (47 274$-70 911$ today). In 1920, the price of model T were 290$ (3 191$ today) this reduction of the price is explain by the increasing of the efficiencies of the assembly lines techniques and volume of the production. At this time, the only competitor of Ford was Chrysler Corporation and they were far away behind because of their outrageous prices.

The motor of the model T had 4 cylinders that develop a phenomenal power of 20, 2 hp. It was enough to goes at a top speed of 40-45 miles an hour (64-72 km/h). For this time, it was an exploit to make cars as performing at this lower price.

Henry Ford said of this vehicle:

"I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one - and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces."
