The most important myth in Quebec

Everyone from Quebec or even Canada knows the bridge of Quebec. It’s a part of our pride; a part of the landscape and of our road. As we know, during its construction, many accidents happened and approximately 86 person died. To be able to finish the bridge without killing other people, an engineer accept a pact with the devil. He promise to the foreman than nobody will die on the bridge until the end of his construction but he will take the soul of the first person who will go on it.

The foreman, who was still traumatized by the dead of the workers, accepted the deal. Since this day, the construction of the bridge ends without troubles; until the time where the devil came to be pay. The supervisor realizes his mistake so he tried to save the life of the unfortunate person who where suppose to be the first one to cross the bridge. He took a black cat that near from him and he throws it on the devil that was waiting. The two of them disappeared and we only found some black hair full of blood.

For me, this myth is one of the most important in Quebec because the bridge is a part of our lives. We see it and use it many times in our life. It is unique, a part of the Quebecor genius, and also a record Guinness. For me, when I cross over it, I don’t really thought about this myth but more about his construction, his history, and the people that died to let this project be a reality. Events happened and myths or legends are here to let us remember those events even if it’s 100 years later.

To conclude, this myth is so important because the bridge is a part of our road, of our city and of our life.
